Great Plains approves tuition increase
Great Plains Technology Center’s governing board has approved a 50-cent-per-hour tuition increase for the next school year.
The concept that would take tuition for adult classes to $2 per hour was introduced to Great Plains’ board of education in December, following a staff analysis of other technology centers. The conclusion: Great Plains’ existing $1.50 per hour was among the lowest in the state and the lowest in the southwest Oklahoma region, where it is the largest technology center. At the time of the survey, only three technology centers in Oklahoma were less expensive to attend than Great Plains.
Staff members had analyzed the effects of raising the tuition to $1.75 or to $2 per hour, with board members agreeing in early January to $2 per hour, effective July 1. Great Plains hasn’t increased its tuition rate since 2011, said Marketing and Communications Director Susan Hardy Brooks.
